Mission Statement: Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund was formed to provide aid, future scholarships and funds to the families of the victims of the World Trade Center tragedy who worked in the food, beverage and hospitality professions throughout the entire complex and who were lost on September 11th. Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization.
With the support and participation from thousands of individuals and various organizations, Windows of Hope has raised more than $21 million. Windows of Hope has identified and is assisting 125 eligible families with some 150 plus dependant children. To date each family has received four direct cash distributions plus emergency monies distributed on an "as needed basis".
WOH has committed to fund five years of health insurance-coverage for all of the families. In addition to the health insurance fund, money for scholarships has been set-aside in a separate fund. Scholarship money is available for all family members from preschool through graduate studies.
Additional programs available to the families include English as a second language instruction, job training, job re-training, legal services, financial counseling and grief counseling.
Windows of Hope Board of Directors include, Tom Valenti, Waldy Malouf, and David Emil.
Windows of Hope Officers are, Michael Lomonaco, Darlene Dwyer, Sue Klein.
Due to Bloomberg L.P.'s generous donation of office space and support facilities, many volunteers, donated legal services and The United Way underwriting The Community Service Society caseworkers salaries, the administrative costs for the Fund are running at an annualized rate of less than 1% of funds raised.
Since the Fund's inception numerous events have been held world wide, including the October 11th Dine Out, during which restaurants raised more than $4 million.
